Who we are

Who we are?

Barnet Community Safety Engagement Group (CSEG) is funded by the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime(MOPC) and is a forum for liaison between the Community and the Police. The CSEG has the direct involvement of the Barnet Police, the local authority and other agencies. Our membership consists of over 50 local community groups' community and voluntary organisations, neighbourhood watch schemes, citizen panels, tenant/resident associations, faith groups, community sports clubs, youth projects, civic societies who have an interest in community safety and policing, or who are engaged in community safety work and initiatives.

All forum meetings are open to members of the public. Participating in the group and its activities gives you the opportunity to meet the Borough Commander, senior police officers, local councillors, the probation service and the court service to raise issues, discuss concerns, find out about what's being done and come up with solutions. To find out more about how to become a member please visit the Get Involved section of this website.

What do we do?

  1. Barnet Community Safety Engagement Group provides effective ways for the community of Barnet to understand and influence the policing decisions and policies that affect them, and to hold the Metropolitan Police Service to account for the service at the local level.

  2. Makes arrangements to carry out local consultation between the communities and the police within the London Borough of Barnet and to obtain the views of local people to ensure that police decisions reflect their concerns and needs.

  3. Engage with local stakeholders in order to influence local decisions about community safety and crime prevention, and bring key local issues to the attention of the Metropolitan Police Authority.

  4. Make representations to the Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis or the Metropolitan Police Authority about matters outside the jurisdiction of the Borough Commander

  5. Provide opportunities through public forums for effective community/ police consultation; enabling the community to debate and question tentative policing policies, and policing issues of local concern.

  6. Consult, promote and carryout surveys on behalf of statutory partners and community organisations.

  7. Promotes good relationship between the police and community in Barnet on policing and associated matters.
